Web Design Intern - Canada Summer Jobs Program

The Organizational Development and Strategy Unit of The United Church of Canada is seeking an individual to fill the role of Web Design Intern as part of the Canada Summer Jobs Program for 2026. This is an 8-week program at 35 hours per week with an anticipated start date of June 22, 2026.

This position is not an active vacancy and is made possible through Canada Summer Jobs, a program funded by Employment and Social Development Canada.

We are seeking a curious, detail-oriented, and collaborative intern to join our UX and Web team for the summer. This role is ideal for someone passionate about digital experiences, website design, user research, and the evolving landscape of online engagement—especially within the non-profit sector. They will play a key role in helping us better understand stakeholder needs and expectations, and contribute to shaping recommendations that improve our digital platforms and tools.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Reviewing existing information architectures and suggesting improvements
  • Assisting with front-end web design planning and architecture
  • Assist with site reviews for SEO/AEO/GEO best practices
  • Identify trends, frustrations, and user expectations related to digital platforms and tools
  • Research current and emerging trends in the non-profit sector related to websites, online portals, and digital engagement
  • Explore technologies, concepts, and best practices that enhance service delivery for end users, staff, and stakeholders
  • Develop outreach and follow-up material for potential interviewees or survey participants
  • Working closely with project team members to collect, organize, and synthesize stakeholder feedback

Qualifications

  • Youth between the ages of 19 to 30 are eligible to apply for this position
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  • Enrolled in or graduate of a relevant post secondary program – preferably User Experience Design, Digital Media, Web Design, Data Analysis or similar 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written ability, excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work all day with computers
  • Knowledge of common Microsoft 365 tools such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc. 
  • Familiarity with user research methods and digital tools (e.g., survey platforms, spreadsheets, reporting tools)
  • Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) a notable asset
  • Knowledge of Microsoft PowerBI or other reporting tools an asset
  • Bilingual English/French is an asset
  • Knowledge and basic understanding of the United Church is an asset

Compensation

Salary will be at $22.22 per hour plus 4% vacation pay.
