Editorial and Video Assistant - Canada Summer Jobs Program

The Organizational Development and Strategy Unit of The United Church of Canada is seeking an individual to fill the role of Editorial Assistant as part of the Canada Summer Jobs Program for 2026. This is an 8-week program at 35 hours per week with an anticipated start date of June 1, 2026.

This position is not an active vacancy and is made possible through Canada Summer Jobs, a program funded by Employment and Social Development Canada.

Key responsibilities and contributions for this position include:

  • Drafting Engaging Content: Crafting compelling material for newsletters and the blog, ensuring alignment with the organizational voice and objectives.
  • Archival Research: Conducting thorough research to inform narratives, provide accurate context, and enrich content.
  • Video Interview Support: Participating in and assisting with video interviews, from initial planning to on-site execution.
  • On-site Content Capturing: Gathering essential visual assets and raw footage in various settings.  For this position, attendance is required for an event at Brock University from August 12th to 14th. Overnight accommodations will be provided if necessary.
  • Content creation: film footage with the goal of creating on-trend social media content that is both engaging and on brand. 
  • Video Editing: Transforming raw footage into polished, high-quality video content suitable for diverse digital platforms, including creating engaging video content specifically for social media channels.
  • Remote Work with On-site Assistance: While primarily a fully remote position, assistance may be requested for occasional on-site video shoots. 

Qualifications

  • Youth between the ages of 18 to 30 are eligible to apply for this position
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  • Post secondary education
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written ability, excellent communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office – ability to work with computers and basic platforms such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Knowledge and basic understanding of the United Church is an asset

Compensation

Salary will be at $22.22 per hour plus 4% vacation pay.
